Some Unicode characters in the UTF-8 range (decimal 0 - 65535, hex 0 - FFFF) will be displayed by your browser.

Netscape Navigator: do not forget to activate 'Use page-specified fonts' (Preferences: Appearance: fonts).
Internet Explorer: do not forget to activate 'Allow page to specify fonts' (Preferences: Web browser: web content).
This document activates the UTF-8 charset in a META tag.

A quick test:

Ĉ If you see a capital C followed by a circumflex (a little inverted v), then you must have Internet Explorer; Netscape Navigator displays a question mark.
Ψ If you see a Greek capital Psi, then you have a Symbol font installed.
✄ If you see a pair of scissors, then you have a suitable Dingbats font installed.
If you don't see these special characters, then your browser is not so modern, you have forgotten to activate page fonts (see top of this page), you have the wrong fonts or something went wrong installing them.

On this page you can find all Unicode characters the latest Macintosh browsers Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator could resolve to something displayable. If you use Internet Explorer, you see fewer question marks and boxes, but more real characters.
If you want to test ALL current Unicode UTF-8 entities yourself, look here for a link with downloadable test pages.
If you want to see many more Unicode characters, buy a Windows computer and some real Unicode fonts. Unfortunately the support for Unicode on a Macintosh is limited. The system software is fine, but the applications not.

Limitations of this test page:

No Asiatic (CJK) characters tested.
Only looked at the Macintosh browsers Netscape Navigator 4.7 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.5.
Only usable if you have installed the fonts Symbol and Zapf Dingbats.
Internet Explorer does the best job in displaying Unicode entities.
But Internet Explorer is not usable for all Unicode entities since in many cases it tries to combine an entity with a preceding character, which results in a wrong display. See for instance #8364.
Netscape Navigator can at the moment not be recommended for Unicode display in general, but some entities work, for instance Greek letters, many math symbols and Dingbats.
If you would like to display special Latin letters, take Internet Explorer.
Other language scripts, such as Cyrillic, Vietnamese, Thai and others, don't seem to work via UTF-8, but they do work via other code pages or the user defined code page (see you browser's font preferences).

Unicode, HTML entities, character sets, META tags, browser differences, .....
Quite daunting or overwhelming. Don't blame me, I didn't invent the sh*t. If you want to know almost everything about these subjects, there's plenty of documentation and there are many web sites, although rather few sites shed any light upon the Macintosh situation.
